Didi commenced its operations in September 2015 as an entity formed after the merger of two on-demand mobility service providers in China, Didi Dache (developed by Beijing-based Xiaoju Technology, a mobile application development company) and Kuaidi Dache (Hangzhou-based Kuaizhi Technology, an artificial intelligence creative platform). Beijing-based Didi Dache was founded by Cheng Wei in June 2012 as a designer and developer of mobile apps facilitating taxi booking services. Kuaidi Dache was founded by Joe Lee and Cheng Wen in August 2012. The entities were funded by China’s leading e-commerce giants Tencent (Didi Dache) and Alibaba (Kuaidi Dache)..
